13. Are we doing satsang to reach Maharaj or to satisfy our desires?

Why do we do satsang with a particular group?

Let us say, the brother of a person is associating with a group of saints. Let us also say that the brother of that person eventually became a saint. Now, where will that person go for satsang? Where does he think can find true saints?

He believes: “My brother is associating with that group of saints, and so, that group of saints is the only group of true saints, unlike any other group.”

If a son of a person becomes a saint, then with whom would that person associate? He will associate only with the group of saints where his son has become a saint.

If someone closely related to a person becomes a saint, then for him that group is the only group to achieve his kalyan, and all other groups don’t help his kalyan as much as that group does.

There would be many such distractions for the soul who wants to reach Shreeji Maharaj. And those distractions are not for his kalyan but to satisfy worldly relations. Whoever wants to reach Shreeji Maharaj should be very careful in this matter.

If such a person’s inner eye is open at least a little, he wouldn’t fall into those traps. There is no problem if he knows that someone is joining some group of fake saints. He can’t stop someone from joining some group as that is their own decision. However, he should not allow those decisions of others to shake the path of his own kalyan.

Why do we do satsang?

Why do we do satsang? To reach Shreeji Maharaj.

However, not everyone does satsang to reach Maharaj. Many souls who attend satsang are attached neither to Bhagwan nor to a true saint. They have some other motives to attend satsang.

For instance, most satsang events happen on the weekend, and most temples have parks and play areas for kids. As a result, many parents go to the temple to let their kids play at temple.

Furthermore, for the parents, the temple is a place for a get-together with other like-minded friends. With the free prasad that is provided at the temple, they are also saved from the efforts of cooking food for everyone at home. Adding to that, the temple prasad will also be a change of taste from the regular home food. Last, and for them may be the least, is the benefit of katha and the association of true saints.

Let us say, if the temple stops providing prasad, then will the people with such a mindset continue to visit the temple for satsang?

Saints too might have a similar thought process. By seeing a certain temple without a Mahant (head saint), a saint might think: “That particular temple has no Mahant yet. If I go there, eventually, I can become the sole administrator of the temple. I will also get the opportunity to visit places and countries. Would be great, isn’t it?”

Those are the reasons for us to do satsang. Our satsang is to pass the weekends and pass our time and not to reach the eternal abode of Bhagwan—Akshardham.

What is the use of such a satsang?
