4. Worldly happiness vs Godly happiness

Leaving bad for good

Tribal people living in dense forests don’t like the delicious and tasty foods available in the city. If the tribal kids are offered Roti, Curry, Laddu, Jalebi etc., they will not like that food. They like the food that is provided at their forest home.

Which food is better? The roots and leaves available in the forest, or the cooked tasty food available in the town and city? Yet the tribal people can’t take the better city food even if it is available abundantly before them.

Similarly, we can’t leave bad things for good things. We can’t leave bad habits for good habits. If you can’t leave bad for good, it means that you are strongly attached to bad than good.

We always follow: If it is mine, it is good. We don’t follow: If it is good, it should be mine.

If “If it is good, it should be mine” is followed, then it is called detachment.

Maharaj mentioned in the Vachnamrut that we derive some happiness from worldly objects. The bliss we derive from human relations is better than that. The bliss we derive from demigods is better than that. Ultimately, the bliss we derive from God is the best of all.If we believe in Maharaj’s words, then it is in fact detachment. Detachment is nothing but holding good and leaving the bad.

Is the pleasure of God good or bad? Good. But we don’t like to get attached to God. We don’t leave the world which is bad for the sake of God.

Never find good in bad

We consider that possessing objects such as worldly luxuries, abundant bank-balance, high-class home, luxurious cars etc., as the best achievement. We possess them thinking that, “No one has achieved such objects.” And we start finding good in them. Once we find good in bad objects, then you can never get detached from it.

Detachment is nothing but leaving bad and holding good in every field of your life. If your activities are bad, do good activities. If your circle of friends is bad, associate with a good circle.

Maharaj even mentioned to discard bad-ego by discarding the ego of bodily consciousness and holding the good-ego of, “I am the servant of God. I am a never a dying soul. I am eternal.”We are so engrossed in cheap five sense objects. Our mind and senses are always enjoying them without a break. We possess “Akhand-Vrutti” [unbreakable focus] on sense objects. Even if God is pleased with us and wanted to bless us with His divine abode, we don’t like it.

Becoming self satisfied with what we possess even if it is bad is the obstacle to detachment.

The one with real detachment will never be satisfied with their possessions until they reach God.

Worldly happiness vs Godly happiness

There is a difference between worldly happiness and Godly happiness. The quality of happiness is different in both cases.

The more we enjoy the world, the more we desire the world. In the process, our intelligence becoming polluted. Then the intelligence becomes dull. Then we can’t differentiate between good and bad. And we can’t even act to avoid the bad.

The more we enjoy God, the more we desire for God. Our intelligence becomes pure and sharp. When you get something bad, you will at once know and decide to keep it away. Once you meditate on God, worship God, keep God in your soul, the intelligence gets sharper and sharper day by day.Householders think, “I will focus on God once my kids grow up.” After the kids are grown up, they think, “I will focus on God after their marriage.” After their marriage, “I should take care of my kids’ kids. I will focus on God after my grandchildren are grown up.” Once their kids grow up, “Let my grandchildren get married. After that it is fine if God comes and takes me.”

The worldly path is always full of fears. We are always haunted by the fear of whether we will continue enjoying the world or not. The fear of worldly objects is of many kinds: will someone will stop my enjoyment, will someone take my objects, will I continue to enjoy it or not.

There is no fear in the Godly path. There is no fear in serving the lotus feet of God. No one can take you away from the service. No one can stop you. If at all fear arises, God protects us.

We should stop our worldly-mind, enjoying-mind, and cultivate rejecting-mind and serve the feet of Maharaj.Nishkulanand Swami asks us to leave the worldly way of life, keep faith in Saints, and serve the lotus feet of God. That is the essence of our life. The essence of all scriptures.

Don’t be worried about others enjoying the world. Don’t be worried that you haven’t achieved the worldly pleasures.

Use the intelligence of the human life and find out that the only one thing which will never make you sorrow and always make you blissful forever is the “divine form of Maharaj.”
