29. Living for the sake of God

How drainage converts itself to Ganga?

There is a Surdas poem:

ek nadiyaa ek naal kahaavat mailo hI neer bharo |

jab dou milakar ek baran bhaI surasarI naam paro ||

ek jIv ek brahma kahaave sUr shyaam jhagaro |

ab kI ber moMhe paar utaaro nahiM pan jaat Taro ||

Meaning: If a drainage canal is directed towards Gangaji river, does the drainage becomes the Gangaji, or the Gangaji becomes the drainage? It depends on which has the strong and forceful flow. Gangaji has the strong and forceful flow compared to smaller canals. So, all the small canals become one with Gangaji and becomes pure and pious.

There is nothing great about the drainage. The only greatness about that drainage is that it is headed towards Gangaji and mixed with Gangaji.

Similarly, if you take the work of God, you would become one with God like how the drainage canal becomes one with Ganga river. It doesn’t matter if you are small or big. Even demigods get purified (as they are souls too) with your help.

Demigods don’t purify you, but you in turn purify them when you live for God and work for God.

Cause of ultimate bliss

Small canals that are coming from villages get merged into Gangaji and become one with Gangaji and purify everyone. Similarly, the Saint gives up his individuality, name, likes and dislikes, and follows Maharaj and purifies all the other souls. Everyone gets purified by being in relation with a Saint and reach Maharaj.

Nishkulanand Swami says that the association of the purest Saint (or devotee) is the cause of ultimate happiness. Being with a Saint in all states of mind, living with such a Saint, strong relation with such a Saint is the real cause of ultimate good.

Any relation with a pure Saint (or devotee) is the cause of ultimate bliss in this life and life after. All his false relations with everything and everyone else will be gone and he would live as a liberated soul. All his illusionary happiness and false thoughts would be gone. The eye of liberation gets opened to him. And he doesn’t fear for anything. His conscience would be free from all the sensual desires, attachments, hate, jealousy, ego, lust, and all inner dirt. And his conscience would be filled with colors of Maharaj.

A pure Saint is most precious

A pure Saint is obtained by luck, by the accumulation of all the pious activities of previous lives. Otherwise it is not easy to obtain the association of such a Saint. The association with such a Saint completes the purpose of one’s life.

Achieving such association is the most difficult. After achieving, maintaining strong relation with such a Saint is most difficult.

Nothing in all the worlds can be compared with a Saint. Neither in heaven, nor on earth, nor on hell. There are infinite things in these worlds. But everyone has some limitation. Everything has some deficiency. A real Saint is complete without any limitations. A Saint’s value can’t be measured. Even if all intelligent people try to enumerate qualities of a Saint with many magnificent examples, it would be small compared with actual qualities of a Saint.

A real Saint is most precious and Maharaj is the Godhead of all such Saints.
