20. Worshiping With Worldly Desires Shakes Your Faith

Jeeva Bhai of Jaska village asked Nityanand Swami, “Swami, how do we strengthen our faith in Maharaj?”

Nityanand Swami replied, “If we do Satsang by leaving the Kusang, then we gradually develop firm faith in Maharaj.”

Maharaj replied, “If you do Satsang for your ultimate good, your faith would be firm. If you do Satsang for worldly desires, your faith would start to shake.”

Some people go to temple until they don’t get a job. Once they get a job, they never turn to the temple even if their house is next to the temple. “I don’t get any time,” would be their reply.

If your activities in Satsang is only to please Maharaj and His Saints and if it is for your own ultimate good, then your faith is solid. If it is to achieve some worldly things like richness, worldly happiness, properties, business growth etc., it would likely be shaken.

While doing yatra, Gurudev Shastriji Maharaj had visited a temple in Amreli. At night he had to stay in the temple. Next morning, one Hari Bhagat was doing Puja and there was not a single Murti of Maharaj in the Puja. He was a good devotee as he used to perform Arti of Maharaj, sing Kirtans, and serve Saints and devotees. Today he had some goddess’ Murti instead of Maharaj’s.

Shastriji Maharaj asked, “Bhagatji, you don’t have Maharaj’s Murti in your puja, why?”

Bhagatji replied, “Swami, these days I have stopped worshiping Maharaj.”

Shastriji Maharaj asked, “Why is that so?”

Bhagatji replied, “Long story short. I was a devotee of Maharaj and did a lot of Seva to Maharaj and His devotees. Decorating deities, cleaning temple, making prasad, serving the temple were some of my regular activities. I did so much for Maharaj, but you know what happened in the end? My wife died. I did so much for Maharaj’s house, and Maharaj spoiled my own house? So, I kept aside the worship of Maharaj and started worshiping Deviji who gave me a new wife.”

Maharaj told not to do Satsang for worldly desires. If it is in our destiny it would come for sure.

We pray to Maharaj, “Maharaj, make me a millionaire. Sooner! Please!” And if it is not in your destiny, what would be your faith towards Maharaj?

There are few Hari Bhagats who do good service in the temple. When they bring their relatives to the temple and if proper attention is not paid to them, they would say “You should have honored us when we brought our relatives.”

“I do so much to Maharaj and Saints. I should get something in return.”

We should worship Maharaj only for our ultimate good. If we desire something else, then we are at fault.
