25. No one can disturb the internal peace of a true saint

Gunatitanand Swami described the perfect example of a true saint in his Swami Ni Vato.

He has said that Sanakadika Rushis (Sanaka kumara, Sanatana kumara, Sanandana kumara, and Sanat kumara) are not the perfect example of true saints as there has been an instance when they exhibited anger.

Who else is the perfect example of a true saint?

NarNarayan Dev is the only best example of a true saint who is complete in all senses.

Why is that?

Once Kamdev (the Cupid) threw a challenge to NarNarayan Dev and Shivji to be able to withstand his power of lust.

So, one day, Kamdev went to Lord Shivji to bring him out of deep meditation and threw his power of lust in the form of a gentle arrow of flowers toward Shivji.

Shivji realized Kamdev’s attempt to break his meditation and responded strongly with an angry look meaning “Hey you! How dare you?” and at the very spot burnt him down to ashes.

In another instance, one day Indra ordered Kamdev and a few beautiful damsels: “Go to NarNarayan Dev’s place and disturb their penance.”

Obeying the order of their master, Kamdev and damsels reached NarNarayan Dev.

Kamdev made the plan of attack and shared it with damsels: “You all go to the spot of NarNarayan Dev’s penance and start dancing in front of them. I will hide behind bushes, wait for that very moment they get charmed, and then throw an arrow of lust at them. Thus, we will together break the penance of NarNarayan Dev in one shot.”

The damsels agreed with Kamdev and began to dance in front of NarNarayan Dev.

For quite some time, they tried all possible ways and all kinds of dance, yet they couldn’t get NarNarayan Dev’s attention.

Eventually, Kamdev and the damsels got tired of their attempts as none of their efforts worked on NarNarayan Dev and were getting ready to leave the place.

At that moment NarNarayan Dev opened their eyes. Looking at NarNarayan Dev opening their eyes, Kamdev and damsels got scared to death in the fear of being cursed and were restless.

NarNarayan Dev told them, “All of you calm down. Free yourself from fear.”

Those words pacified and calmed Kamdev and damsels.

Lord Narayan then generated a very beautiful damsel named Urvashi from his thigh. She was so beautiful that her beauty outshined the beauty of all damsels put together.

NarNarayan Dev said, “Take this damsel. This is our gift to your master Indra. Also, don’t be scared to come back again.”

If NarNarayan Dev was disturbed, even slightly, by the power of lust, then Kamdev and damsels would have been successful, but it never happened.

Thus, among all examples of a saint, NarNarayan Dev is the only right example of a true saint. Nothing from the outside world can disturb their inside.

Not everyone is expected to be so. Yet if we wish to be a true saint then we must compete with NarNarayan Dev. We should break the record of NarNarayan Dev in being free from lust.

A true saint is internally powered by detachment (vairagya) and renunciation (tyag). No one can disturb his internal peace. No one can put a bad mark on his character. Because he is never attracted to anything external.
